Tom McCloskey--Head Varsity Coach

The 2016-17 season marks Coach McCloskey's 21st year as a head coach at RB (1989-94, and 2001-present). He has won fifteen consecutive conference titles, beginning in 2001-02 at RB and 17 in a row total (1999-2000 and 2000-2001 at Montini). He has been named an Illinois Basketball Coaches Association District Coach of the Year 9 times, most recently after the 2014-15 season. His RB teams have a 316-126 (73.4%) record since 2001, including an 157-18 (92.1%) conference record. His 2014-15 team owns the most wins in school history (28). The 2008-09 team has the 3rd most wins in school history with 24, while his 2001-02, 2010-2011, 2011-12, and 2012-13 teams are tied for the fourth most wins in school history (23). On January 13, 2009, Coach McCloskey won his 176th game as a head boys basketball coach at RB, making him the all-time winningest head coach in school history, dating back to 1907-08 (Currently 360 wins). In addition in the past 15 years, Coach McCloskey's teams have won 15 consecutive Conference Championships and his RBHS teams have won many other titles including: 1 IHSA Sectional Championship, 4 IHSA Regional Championships, the 2001 Jack Tosh York Christmas Tournament, 6 Bill Vandemerkt Thanksgiving Classic Championships, and the 2003 Jack Tosh York Christmas Consolation Championship.

Prior to his career at RB coach McCloskey was Head Coach at Montini Catholic High School from 1997-2001, where he turned that program into a winner during his four years, with a record of 77-31. Coach McCloskey was an assistant at Hinsdale Central and had the opportunity to go downstate with the Red Devils, two consecutive seasons 1995-96 and 1996-97. Coach McCloskey spent the 1994-95 season as an assistant at Downers Grove North to Al Biancalana, who has served as the Associate Head Coach at Bradley University, was head coach at York High School the past five seasons and was the Associate Head Coach at University of Illinois-Chicago the past five years. Coach McCloskey also spent 5 seasons as the Head Coach at RB from 1989-1994.  During the 1988-1989 campaign, Coach McCloskey was the varsity assistant at RB.  In 1986 Coach McCloskey had the opportunity to coach at Nazareth Academy, working with current Vanderbilt University assistant and former Illinois State University Head Coach, Tom Richardson for two seasons.  From 1982-1984, coach McCloskey was the Head Freshman coach at Riverside Brookfield and he began his career as a Freshman B team coach at RB in 1981 for head coach Dean Cada. 

Coach McCloskey's overall career record in 25 years as a head coach (21 at RB and 4 at Montini) is 437-236 (65.9%).

Coach McCloskey spends his summers running the Riverside Brookfield Basketball camp, as well as running the Tom McCloskey/Hauser Basketball Camp at Hauser Jr. High in Riverside. He also spent 14 years on the staff of the Ron Felling Shooting Camp. Coach Felling is a former assistant coach at Indiana University. Coach McCloskey also spent many years working the Michael Jordan Basketball Camp at Elmhurst College.  This past summer Coach McCloskey also ran the very competitive 20 team varsity summer league at RBHS for the 3rd summer.

Coach McCloskey recently retired after teaching Physical Education teacher at Hauser Junior High School in Riverside for over 30 years and also resides with his wife Mary Jo in Riverside.  His three kids, Dan, Maggie, and Mollie all graduated from RB.
