Coach Herbeck is entering his 21st season coaching at Riverside Brookfield. 2021-22 is Coach Herbeck's fifth year as Head Freshman Coach after being Coach McCloskey's assistant on the varsity level the previous 16 years. Coach Herbeck was instrumental in the success of the varsity level during that 16 year span, while his day to day duties included working with our post players in practice, scouting opponents, game planning, and he is responsible for defensive match-ups during games. His 2018-19 Freshman A team was a very successful one with a 21-4 overall record, winning the Metro Suburban Conference Championship with a perfect 12-0 record and finished the season with a 12 game winning streak.
Overall this is Coach Herbeck's 24th year of coaching. He spent one year as an assistant girl's coach (1998-99) and one year as the head varsity girl's coach (1999-2000) at Curie High School in the Chicago Public League. Coach Herbeck joined the boys staff at Stagg High School in 2000-2001 as the varsity boys assistant. Coach Herbeck came to RB in 2001-2002 and helped lead the Bulldogs to 15 conference championships, 4 regional championships, and one sectional championship during his 16 years on Coach McCloskey's staff.
In addition to his coaching duties at RB, Coach Herbeck coached AAU baskeball for a number of years, working with the highly regarded Chicago Lockdown AAU program in the spring and summer and coached in our RB Junior Bulldogs feeder program for a number of years. He is a 1992 graduate of St. Laurence High School, where he played basketball for four years. He also played collegiately at Benedictine University in Lisle.
Coach Herbeck is a chemistry teacher at RB and he and his two sons Lucas and Danny live in La Grange Park.
