Varsity Falls In Regional Championship to Proviso East! The Varsity Bulldogs and Proviso East Pirates battled in the IHSA Class 4A Regional Championship game. The game saw a few different lead changes in the first half, with the Bulldogs jumping out to a 23-15 lead, before Proviso East went on a 22-7 run to close out the half and led the Bulldogs 37-30 at halftime. The Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to close out the third quarter and trailed 54-53 at the end of three. The fourth quarter saw many lead changes, with the Bulldogs holding their last lead 64-63 with 3 minutes and 30 seconds remaining. The Pirates made some big plays down the stretch and finished with the 74-69 victory over the Bulldogs. Jalen Clanton led the Bulldogs with 20 points. Skyler Nash had 15 points and 8 rebounds. Mark Smith added 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Daniko Jackson added 9 points and 9 assists. The loss was a very disappointing way to end the season, as the Bulldogs missed over 30 layups in the game. The Pirates took advantage of the Bulldog miscues and advance to the Sectional semi-finals vs. Kenwood. Nonetheless it was another tremendous season for the Bulldogs, as they finish the year 22-6 and won their 15th consecutive Metro Suburban Conference championship and won the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving classic. It was also the 8th straight season the Bulldogs have won 20 or more games. The senior class goes down as one of the most successful in school history. Mark Smith set the record for most wins by an individual player during their varsity career with 71, breaking Ryan Jackson's record of 69 set in 2011. Daniko Jackson tied Ryan's number of 69 and undoubtedly would have tied Mark with the 71 record, however he had to sit two games during his junior year with an ankle injury. The group of seniors were 24-0 as freshman, 21-3 as sophomores, 28-4 and sectional champions as juniors, and 22-6 as seniors, with conference titles each year. This group will certainly be missed and our underclassmen need to be up to the challenge, as they have big shoes to fill.
Varsity Wins Shootout vs. Mather 103-88! The Varsity Bulldogs and Mather Rangers both shot the ball very well with Mather making 17 three pointers and the Bulldogs making 15 three pointers for the game. The Bulldogs opened up numerous leads of 8-10 points during the first half, but Mather kept up their hot shooting and trailed the Bulldogs 50-45 at halftime. The Rangers took a 65-60 lead over the Bulldogs in the late third quarter and their best player Trevion Bell had 9 three pointers at this point. Dean Zigulich entered the game for the Bulldogs and played excellent defense, shutting down Trevion Bell. Zigulich set the tone and the fourth quarter was all Bulldogs, as they finished with the 103-88 victory. Six Bulldogs scored in double figures, led by Jalen Clanton's 27 points, 10 assists, and 6 rebounds. Henry Trelenberg added 19 points and 5 rebounds. Skyler Nash had 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Ryan Cicenas added 17 points and 5 rebounds. Mark Smith had 12 points and 6 rebounds, while Daniko Jackson had 10 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 22-5 and take on the winner of Proviso East and St. Ignatius for the Regional Championship on Friday, March 4th at 7:00pm.
Varsity Improves to 21-5! Sophomores Finish Season 18-6! The Varsity Bulldogs and Lyons Township battled for most of the game. The Bulldogs led by 6-8 points most of the second half, but LT kept battling back. However, the Bulldogs pulled away at the end to finish with the 75-62 victory. Five Bulldogs scored in double figures. Daniko Jackson had 16 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds. Henry Trelenberg scored 16 points and had 5 rebounds. Jalen Clanton was the third Bulldog with 16 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Skyler Nash and Mark Smith each added 11 points. The Bulldogs improve to 21-5 overall and enter regional tournament play 7:00pm on Tuesday, March 1st at St. Ignatius.
Varsity Falls in Overtime to Number 1 Morgan Park! The Varsity Bulldogs came out very slow against number 1 ranked, Morgan Park and fell behind 16-1 midway through the first quarter. The Dogs cut the Morgan Park lead to 22-10 after one quarter. The Dogs started out cold in the second quarter, forcing a number of shots, falling behind 32-12, but started sharing the ball on offense and finished the quarter on a 15-4 run, cutting the Mustangs lead to 36-27 by halftime. The Bulldogs played strong in the third quarter and cut the Morgan Park lead to 3 points heading into the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs took the lead early in the fourth quarter and led a good chunk of the final period, including a 5 point lead with 90 seconds to play. But, Morgan Park's star guard, Charlie Moore put the team on his back and with the Bulldogs up 3 in the closing seconds of regulation, Charlie Moore hit a 25 foot contested three pointer to send the game into overtime, tying the game at 71. Moore controlled most of the overtime and helped Morgan Park defeat the Bulldogs 86-79. The Bulldogs had plenty of great efforts to go around, led by junior guard Jalen Clanton who led all scorers in the game with 32 points and 5 assists. Mark Smith (14 points, 5 rebounds) and Skyler Nash (13 points, 8 rebounds) played a solid games. Henry Trelenberg added 9 points on 3 big three pointers late in the third quarter and early in the fourth. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 20-5 overall leading into the final regulation season home game of the year at 7:00 pm on Friday, February 26th vs. neighborhood rival, Lyons Township.
Varsity Wins 37th Straight Conference Game! The Varsity Bulldogs led by as many as 17 points in the first half vs. Glenbard South, before heading into halftime with a 37-25 point lead. The second half was all Bulldogs, leading by 20 points after three quarters and by as many as 29 points, before finishing with a 89-62 victory. Skyler Nash led the Bulldog attack with 26 points, while Henry Trelenberg had 15 points and 5 rebounds. Daniko Jackson added 12 points and 6 assists. Jalen Clanton had 11 points and 5 rebounds, while Calvell Randall had 8 points and 8 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 20-4 overall and finished a perfect 12-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference.
Varsity Rolls St. Edward on Senior Night! The Varsity Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead with their all senior starting lineup and never looked back cruising to a 33-8 halftime lead, before finishing with a 72-33 victory over Elgin St. Edward. The Bulldogs had a balanced attack that saw 11 of the 12 players that suited up score. Henry Trelenberg led the Bulldogs with 11 points. Mark Smith added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jalen Brooks and Ryan Cicenas each added 8 points. The Bulldogs improve to 19-4 and 11-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference and travel to Glenbard South on Friday, February 19th at 7:00.
Varsity Clinches 15th Straight Conference Crown! The Varsity Bulldogs led the Fenton Bison 42-29 at halftime. The Dogs didn't play poorly, but didn't quite put away the Bison in the first half. The Bulldogs changed that in the second half by scoring the first 19 points of the second half and outscored the Bison 44-14 in the second half to cruise to the 86-43 victory. Skyler Nash led the Bulldogs with 24 points (5 three pointers) and 7 rebounds. Daniko Jackson added 12 points and 8 assits, while Henry Trelenberg chipped in 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Ryan Cicenas added 9 points and Mark Smith had 8 points and 12 rebounds. The victory marks the 15th consecutive conference championship for the Bulldogs, which is an incredibly impressive feat and a testament to the job that Coach McCloskey has done since taking over the program in 2001. The Bulldogs are now 18-4 overall and 10-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs host Elgin St. Edward on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:00pm for Senior Night.
Varsity Wins Big! The Varsity Bulldogs started out slow, tied 20-20 with Aurora Central Catholic after one quarter. The Dogs closed out the second quarter strong and took a 44-34 lead at halftime lead. The second half the Bulldog extended the lead to 73-56 after three quarters and finished the fourth quarter with a 99-68 victory. ACC had no answer for Mark Smith all night long, as was one of four Bulldogs in double figures, finishing with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Jalen Clanton added 19 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds. Daniko Jackson chipped in 16 points and 7 assists (0 turnovers). Skyler Nash finished with 10 points and 4 rebounds in a game that saw 11 different Bulldogs score. The Bulldogs improve to 17-4 overall and 9-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs play again on Friday, February 12th at 7pm, at Fenton.
Varsity Pulls Out Win against Immaculate Conception! The Varsity Bulldogs were never in sync offensively or defensively throughout the game vs. Immaculate Conception. The Dogs trailed ICCP 36-34 at halftime and the Knights gave the Bulldogs all they could handle throughout the game. The Bulldogs made some timely plays down the stretch, mainly offensive rebounds on missed free throws by Mark Smith and Ryan Cicenas and finished with the 71-66 victory. The Bulldogs were able to take advantage of a size advantage in the post with Mark Smith leading the way with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Calvell Randall added 15 points inside for the Bulldogs. Ryan Cicenas chipped in 13 points and Jalen Clanton added 12 points. The Bulldogs improve to 16-4 overall and 8-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. and host Aurora Central Catholic on Tuesday, February 9th.
Varsity Bulldogs and Fall Short Vs. St. Joseph! The Varsity Bulldogs and St. Joseph battled back and forth for entire game, with neither team taking more than a 5 point lead. The Bulldogs trailed 13-10 after one quarter and held a 20-19 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs had a 37-34 lead after three quarters, but couldn't hold on, as St. Joseph made some plays down the stretch and the Bulldogs didn't. The Chargers prevailed with a 53-50 victory at the Batavia Night of Hoops. Jalen Clanton led the Bulldogs with 17 points and added 5 rebounds. Henry Trelenberg finished with 13 points and Mark Smith added 12 points and 7 rebounds. The Bulldogs fall to 15-4 on the season and travel to Immaculate Conception on Friday, February 5th to take on the Knights at 7:00pm.
Varsity Bulldogs Start Strong and Finish Strong vs. Wheaton Academy! The Varsity Bulldogs came out very strong and jumped out to an 18-2 lead vs. Wheaton Academy. The Warriors battled back strong and cut the Bulldog lead to 33-28 at halftime. The second half saw the Bulldogs lead by 5-8 points most of the third quarter. The Warriors came strong out early in the fourth quarter and took a 54-52 lead on the Bulldogs with about 6:00 minutes to go. After that it was all Bulldogs, who went on an 19-4 run to end the game with a 71-58 victory. Skyler Nash had a huge game with 28 points and 6 rebounds. Daniko Jackson had a solid overall game with 14 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Jalen Clanton added 14 points and 3 assists. Mark Smith chipped in 8 points and 7 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 15-3 overall and 7-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs have a quick turnaround and play St. Joseph on Saturday, January 30th at the Batavia Night of Hoops at 6:15pm.
Varsity Bulldogs Start Strong, Come Up Short Vs. Fenwick The Varsity Bulldogs came out with a lot of energy in the When Sides Collide Shootout vs. Fenwick, leading the Friars 19-12 after one quarter. The Dogs continued very strong play in the second quarter and increased their lead to 32-23 at halftime. The Friars cut the Bulldog lead to 50-46 after three quarters. The Bulldogs struggled closing out the game, missing 9 straight free throws in the fourth quarter and numerous open shots and layups. Fenwick took their first lead with about 5 minutes left in the game and the Dogs never got back over the hump, falling to the Friars 67-64. Daniko Jackson led the Bulldogs with 17 points and 10 assists. Jalen Clanton added 14 points. Skyler Nash had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Mark Smith added 12 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore and Varsity Win Conference Crossover vs. Illiana Christian! The Varsity Bulldogs came out flat against Illiana Christian, but had a nice run in the late second quarter to take a 40-35 halftime lead. Illiana Christian went on a 9-0 run to take the lead in the mid third quarter and Coach McCloskey benched the starters and put in 5 players that all brought something to the table off the bench. Ryan Cicenas had 13 points, Jalen Brooks added 6 points and 5 rebounds. Calvell Randall added 6 points and 3 rebounds, and Amari Smith added 4 assists. The second unit got the lead back to 5 in a 5-6 minute stretch leading into the early fourth quarter and then the starters closed it out for a 79-67 victory. Henry Trelenberg led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Jalen Clanton also added 15 points. Daniko Jackson had 7 assists and 0 turnovers. The Bulldogs made 12 three pointers in the game and had a very high percentage of 18 assists on 26 made baskets. Henry Trelenberg led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 4 rebounds. Daniko Jackson added 13 points and 9 assists (0 turnovers). Ryan Cicenas and Jalen Clanton chipped in 12 and 10 points respectively. The Bulldogs improve to 13-2 overall and 6-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. Varsity Bulldogs Bounce Back vs. Metea Valley The Varsity Bulldogs and Metea Valley played a pretty even first half with no team leading by more than 4 points and were knotted up at 30 each at halftime in the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic at York High School. The Dogs controlled much of the second half leading 44-38 after three quarters and finished with a 68-57 victory, which was a nice bounce back, after a very disappointing quarterfinal loss to Naperville North the night before. Daniko Jackson led the Bulldog charge with 24 points and 7 assists. Mark Smith produced a solid double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jalen Clanton added 10 points, while Skyler Nash added 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. The Bulldogs improve to 11-2 overall and host Glenbard South on Friday, January 8th at 7:00pm.
Bulldogs Fall Down Early and Never Regroup vs. Naperville North! The Varsity Bulldogs came out flat and fell behind early vs. Naperville North and never got it going offensively or defensively. Naperville North threaded through the RB defensive pressure and continually got layups and wide open jump shots, taking advantage of pretty much every RB defensive miscue. The Dogs trailed 18-13 after one quarter and 39-29 at halftime. Naperville North controlled pretty much the entire second half, before defeating the Bulldogs 74-56. Skyler Nash led the Bulldogs with 17 points and Jalen Clanton chipped in 16. The Bulldogs (10-2) have to bounce back quick and take on a good Metea Valley team at 5:00pm on Wednesday, December 30th.
Bulldogs Rout Lake Forest in Second Round of Jack Tosh! The Varsity Bulldogs led Lake Forest 17-9 following a Jalen Clanton three point buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. The Dogs led 22-16 in the mid-2nd quarter and then went on a 12-2 run to close out the first half, leading 34-18 at halftime. The Dogs increased their lead to as many as 26 points in the second half, before finishing with a 69-48 victory. Daniko Jackson led the Bulldogs with a solid overall game, 20 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Skyler Nash and Jalen Clanton each added 16 points in the win. Nash had a huge 1st half, with 13 of those points and also played great defense on Lake Forest's star player, Lorenzo Edwards. The Bulldogs improve to 10-1 overall and take on Naperville North at 8pm on Tuesday, December 29th in the quarterfinals of the Jack Tosh Holiday tournament.
Varsity Places 4 in Double Figures in Jack Tosh Opening Round Win! The Varsity Bulldogs led Rolling Meadows 21-9 after one quarter and increased their lead to 57-30 after three quarters, before finishing with the 66-47 victory in the opening round of the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic at York High School. The Bulldogs were led by Skyler Nash with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Jalen Clanton had 13 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. The Dogs take on Rolling Meadows at 3pm. Varsity Bulldogs Put Away ACC! The Varsity Bulldogs started a little sluggish in the first quarter. After taking a 7-0 lead, Aurora Central Catholic scored the next 8 points and took an 8-7 lead. The Dogs and Chargers traded a few baskets and the Chargers led 14-12, when the Bulldogs closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run to lead 20-14 at the end of one quarter. After that it was all Bulldogs, with the Dogs scoring 30 points in the second quarter and leading 50-30 at halftime. The Bulldogs continued to increase their lead in the third quarter, leading by as many as 38 points in the mid third quarter. The Dogs coasted in the second half to a 90-58 victory. Skyler Nash led the Bulldogs with 17 points and 5 rebounds. James Kaczmarczyk chipped in 14 points, while Ryan Cicenas added 13 points. Daniko Jackson added 8 points and 9 assists. Varsity Bulldogs Win Big! The Varsity Bulldogs led Immaculate Conception from start to finish. The Dog were up as many as 17 points in the first half, before leading 42-34 at halftime. The Dogs held the Knights to one field goal in the third quarter and pushed their lead to 55-39 points after three quarter, before busting the game wide open in the fourth quarter. The Dogs finished with a 78-49 victory. Jalen Clanton led the Bulldog attack with 19 points. Daniko Jackson had a solid overall game with 15 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals. James Kaczmarczyk was also very solid with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Skyler Nash made his Bulldog debut and chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 6-1 and 2-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs next game is Tuesday, December 15th at 7:30pm at Aurora Central Catholic. Varsity Falls To Nationally Ranked Gonzaga Prep! The Varsity Bulldogs battled the number 23 ranked team in the nation, Gonzaga Prep in the Chicago Elite Classic and fell 78-64. The Bulldogs battled back and forth with the Eagles in the first quarter, trailing 24-21 at the end of the quarter. The second half was very competitive as well and the Dogs trailed 42-35 at halftime. However, many costly turnovers by the Bulldogs and too many offensive rebounds in the third quarter for the Eagles, pushed the Gonzaga lead to 63-46 after three quarters. The Bulldogs didn't quit, cutting the Gonzaga lead to less than 10 points many times throughout the fourth quarter, but couldn't make that final push, falling to the Eagles 78-64. Mark Smith led the Bulldogs with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Jalen Clanton added 18 points. Ryan Cicenas added 9 points and Daniko Jackson had 8 points and 9 assists for the Dogs. The Bulldogs are now 5-1 overall and host Immaculate Conception on Friday, December 11th at 7:00pm.
Program Sweep Of Wheaton Academy! The Varsity Bulldogs started out with a 16-5 first quarter lead and forced Wheaton Academy into 13 first half turnovers. However, the Bulldogs didn't capitalize on those turnovers and didn't shoot the ball well, leading 28-16 at halftime. The Bulldogs continued to play solid defense in the second half, but the still had trouble putting the ball in the basket, as they missed many layups, free throws and finished an uncharacteristic 1-17 from the three point line for the game. The Warriors wouldn't go away and cut the Bulldog lead to 6 in the fourth quarter, but the Dogs made a run late and finished the game with a 49-36 victory. The Dogs improve to 5-0 and take on the number 23 team in the country, Gonzaga Prep from Washington DC at 2:30 on Saturday, December 5th at the UIC Pavilion, in the Chicago Elite Classic. Varsity Rolls Oak Park! The Varsity Bulldogs were clicking on all cylinders offensively and defensively in championship game of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic against Oak Park River Forest. The Dogs fell behind early 7-0, before regrouping and taking a 9-7 lead and the Dogs never trailed again. The Bulldogs led 18-12 after 1 quarter and 35-30 at halftime, before opening the game up a bit in the late third quarter, leading 53-42 after three quarters, before finishing with a very impressive 72-52 victory. Tournament MVP, Daniko Jackson led a balanced Bulldog attack with 17 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Jalen Clanton added 13 points. Mark Smith chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds, while sophomore Ryan Cicenas had 12 points and 6 rebounds. The Bulldogs got great defensive production from Amari Smith, Dean Zigulich and Calvell Randall off the bench. The win moves the Bulldogs to 4-0 overall. The Dogs have a big weekend coming up, with their first conference game on the road on Friday, December 4th at Wheaton Academy (7:30pm) and play in the Chicago Elite Classic on Saturday, December 5th at 2:30pm at UIC Pavillion. Varsity Puts Away Lake Park! The Varsity Bulldogs came out strong and led Lake Park 10-0 in the first quarter and 12-4 at the end of one quarter. The Bulldogs led 26-18 at the half and did not capitalize on poor shooting and 16 turnovers by the Lancers. Lake Park made it a ball game in the third quarter, trailing the Bulldog 37-34 after three. However, the fourth quarter was all Bulldogs, highlighted by some big baskets by senior Daniko Jackson. The Dogs finished with a 63-47 victory. Daniko Jackson led the Bulldogs with 18 points and 4 assists. Jalen Clanton added 13 points. Mark Smith had another double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Ryan Cicenas chipped in 12 points and 4 steals. The Bulldogs improve to 3-0 overall and face Oak Park-River Forest at 5:30pm today for the championship of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic. Varsity With Hard Fought Win! The Varsity Bulldogs came out with a ton of energy in the first quarter against St. Laurence, forcing the Vikings into many early turnovers and it looked like the Dogs were going to run away with the game early, taking a early double digit lead. But the Vikings settled down and didn't quit and cut the Bulldog lead to 22-17 after one quarter. The Vikings outplayed the Bulldogs in the second quarter, which saw the Bulldogs trail 33-30 at halftime. The third quarter was fairly even and the score was tied 46-46 at the end of the three. The fourth quarter was all Bulldogs, as they held St. Laurence to only one field goal in the quarter and prevailed with a 60-52 victory. The Bulldogs showed great balance in the game with all five starters scoring double figures. Mark Smith led the way with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Daniko Jackson added 13 points and 7 steals. Jalen Clanton had 12 points, James Kaczmarczyk added 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Sophomore Ryan Cicenas chipped in 10 points. The Dogs improve to 2-0 and take on Lake Park at 6:00pm on Friday, November 27th in their third game of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic. Varsity Opens Season With Win vs. Rich Central! The Varsity Bulldogs opened the season with a 87-73 victory over the Olympians of Rich Central. The Bulldogs started slow in the 1st quarter, trailing 15-13 after one. The Dogs then got it together and exploded for 31 points in the second quarter and led 44-36 at halftime. Despite battling massive foul trouble, the Dogs extended their lead to 15 points after three quarters and to as many as 24 points with 3 minutes to play, before finishing with the 87-73 victory. Junior Jalen Clanton led the way with 28 points and 8 rebounds, while senior Daniko Jackson added 24 points (15-17 from the free throw line), 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Junior guard Amari Smith came off the bench and added 8 points and 6 assists, while senior James Kaczmarczyk added 7 points and 7 rebounds. Despite playing limited minutes because of foul trouble, Mark Smith led the Bulldogs with 11 rebounds. Next up for the Bulldogs are the Vikings of St. Laurence at 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 25th.
