Sophomores Finish Season 18-6! The Sophomore Bulldogs led Lyons Township for the bulk of the game and weren't able to close it out down the stretch, losing 58-56. The Bulldogs made a couple bad decisions in the last two minutes and the Lions capitalized. AJ Meindl led the Bulldogs with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Drew Pitlik added 14 points and Donald McCurdy chipped in 10 points. The Dogs had a very good season overall finishing 18-6 and winning their 10th Consecutive Metro Suburban Conference Championship.
Sophomores Clinch 10th Consecutive Conference Championship! The Sophomore Bulldogs started out very slow, falling behind 16-8 in the early second quarter, before outscoring the Raiders 19-2 to close out the first half and take a 27-18 halftime lead. Glenbard South played a solid third quarter and hit a three pointer at the buzzer to cut the Bulldog lead to 40-37 after three quarters. The fourth quarter was all Bulldogs, as they outside the Raiders 19-4 to finish with a 59-41 victory, which clinched the Sophomores 10th consecutive conference championship! Drew Pitlik led the Bulldogs with 20 points and chipped in 8 rebounds. AJ Meindl had 12 points, while Jason Bageanis contributed a near double-double with 9 points and 11 rebounds. Devin Moody had a solid 8 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. The Bulldogs improve to 18-5 overall and 11-1 in the Metro Suburban Conference!
Sophomores Improve to 17-5! The Sophomore Bulldogs came out with a lot of energy and jumped out to a 23-4 first quarter lead and never looked back in their 78-41 victory that saw 4 Bulldogs reach double figures in scoring. Zach Vaia led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 4 assists. Drew Pitlik added 14 points and 6 rebounds. Jason Bageanis had another double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Devin Moody added 10 points, including an impressive baseline dunk that he got fouled on. The Bulldogs improve to 17-5 overall and 10-1 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs travel to Glenbard South on Friday, February 19th at 5:30pm to take on the Raiders.
Sophomores Defeat Fenton! The Sophomore Bulldogs held a 28-14 lead over Fenton at the half and couldn't quite put away the Bison, playing even most of the second half and finishing with a 53-37 victory. The win improves the Bulldogs record to 16-5 overall and 9-1 in the Metro Suburban Conference, currently tied for 1st place with Immaculate Conception. Jason Bageanis led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while AJ Meindl added 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Dogs host Elgin St. Edward at 5:30pm on Tuesday, February 16th.
Sophomores Improve to 15-5! The Sophomore Bulldogs started out very slow, trailing 12-9 after one quarter and falling behind 24-15 before the Dogs scored the final 9 points of the half to go into halftime tied at 24. The second half was all Bulldogs, as the Dogs led by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter and finished with a 56-41 victory. AJ Meindl led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Jason Bageanis had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Donald McCurdy aed 10 points and 5 assists. The Bulldogs improve to 15-5 overall and 8-1 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs travel to Fenton on Friday, February 12th to take on Bison at 5:30pm.
Sophomores Lose to Immaculate Conception! The Sophomore Bulldogs started out strong leading a very good Immaculate Conception team 14-10 after one quarter. However, the Bulldogs did not sustain the same effort throughout the game and trailed 24-19 at halftime. The Dogs then trailed 40-34 after three quarters and the Knights opened up the game midway through the fourth to beat the Bulldogs 61-45. ICCP improved to 22-2 with the win and moved into a first place tie in the Metro Suburban Conference with the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs fall to 14-5 overall and 7-1 in the conference. The Dogs host Aurora Central Catholic at 5:30pm on Tuesday, February 9th.
Sophomore Bulldogs Win Tough Battle vs. Glenbard East! The Sophomore Bulldogs and the Rams of Glenbard East traded blows back and forth throughout the game. The score was tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter and the Bulldog trailed 26-23 at halftime. The Bulldogs built several 4-5 point leads throughout the second half and Glenbard East answered with a run of their own every time and the Bulldogs were able to hang on for a 58-57 victory. Jason Bageanis led the Bulldog charge with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Drew Pitlick added 13 points. Zach Vaia had another solid overall game with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. AJ Meindl chipped in 8 points in the win. The Bulldogs improve to 14-4 overall and take on a very good Immaculate Conception team on Friday, February 5th at 6:00pm in Elmhurst.
Sophomore Bulldogs Fall Short Vs. St. Joseph! Earlier in the day the Sophomore Bulldogs took on a very tough St. Joseph team. Most of the first half the Bulldogs and Chargers traded baskets, with the Chargers leading 19-18 after one quarter. With the score tied, the Chargers went on a 8-0 run to close out the 2nd quarter and took a 36-28 lead at halftime. The Bulldogs clamped down defensively in the third quarter and cut the Charger lead to 42-39 after three quarters. The Chargers and Dogs played even most of the fourth quarter until the last 3 minutes the Chargers made a couple of plays and made their free throws down the stretch to finish with the 56-45 victory. The Sophomore Bulldogs fall to 13-4 on the season and host Glenbard East on Wednesday, February 3rd at 5:30pm.
Sophomores Gut Out Tough Win! The Sophomore Bulldogs started out slow and finished strong in their game vs. Wheaton Academy. The Dogs trailed 14-6 after one quarter and trailed 28-22 at halftime. However, they came out very strong in the second half led by Drew Pitlik's 17 second half points (23 for the game). The Dogs trailed 46-44 after 3 quarters and started to pull away in the fourth quarter, building their lead to 9 points before finishing with the 62-55 victory. Zach Vaia contributed 12 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds. AJ Meindl chipped in 11 points, while Devin Moody added 7 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 13-3 overall and 7-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs take on St. Joseph at 1:15 on Saturday, January 30th at the Batavia Night of Hoops.
Sophomore and Varsity Win Conference Crossover vs. Illiana Christian! The Sophomore Bulldogs came out a little sluggish in the first half, trailing 25-24 at halftime. The played much harder and better defensively in the second half and hit some timely shots and free throws, to prevail with the 55-44 victory. Jason Bageanis led the Bulldogs with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Zach Vaia added 10 points and 6 assists, while Donald McCurdy also added 10 points. Devin Moody led the Bulldogs with 8 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 12-3 overall and host Wheaton Academy on Friday, January 29th at 5:30.
Sophomores and Varsity Cruise to Metro Suburban Conference Wins! The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to 14-2 lead, en route to a 28 point first quarter. However, St. Edward's played hard and was able to stick around, cutting the Bulldog lead to 37-25 at halftime. The Bulldogs and Green Wave played even in the third quarter, with the lead 48-36, before the Bulldogs finished the game off with a 68-52 victory. AJ Meindl led the Bulldogs with 18 points and Jake Vaia was huge off the bench with 4 three pointers and 12 points. The Bulldogs improve to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs host Illiana Christian at 5:30pm on Wednesday, January 20th.
Sophomores and Varsity Both Remain Undefeated In Conference! The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead and led 20-11 at the end of one quarter and continued their strong play in the second quarter, leading 40-21 at halftime. The Dogs increased the lead to as many as 26 points in the second half before finishing with the 64-44 victory. Zach Vaia led the Bulldogs with 19 points and 3 assists. AJ Meindl added 17 points and 7 rebounds, while Drew Pitlik added 12 points and 7 rebounds. The Dogs are now 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs travel to Elgin St. Edward on Tuesday, January 12th at 6:00 for a Metro Suburban Conference matchup.
Sophomore Bulldogs With Nice Win vs. St. Ignatius! The Sophomore Bulldogs attacked the basket well in the first quarter and led the Wolfpack 19-12. The Bulldogs improved their lead to 24-12 before St. Ignatius made a run to take the lead just before halftime at 32-30. The third quarter was dominated early by St. Ignatius, but Donald McCurdy scored 8 points in a stretch to help keep the Bulldogs in the game. The Wolfpack led the Bulldogs anywhere from 4-7 points throughout much of the third quarter. The Bulldogs did a better job of getting stops and securing rebounds in the fourth quarter. AJ Meindl, Drew Pitlik, Jason Bagaenis, and Zach Vaia all made key plays in the fourth quarter to help secure a 56-52 Bulldog victory. Drew Pitlik led the Bulldogs with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Jason Bageanis added 10 points and 4 rebounds. Donald McCurdy also chipped in 10 points, while AJ Meindl scored 9 points. Sophomores Beat York to Finish Third In Big Gold Tournament! The Sophomore Bulldogs battled back and forth with York throughout the game. The Bulldogs and Dukes were tied at 22 at halftime. The Bulldogs were up 36-34 after three quarters and the Dogs held on to defeat the Dukes 44-42. Drew Pitlik led the Bulldogs with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Donald McCurdy chipped in 11 points and 4 assists. The Bulldogs improve to 8-3 overall and are off until January 6th, when they travel to St. Ignatius to take on the Wolfpack at 5:30pm.
Sophomore Bulldogs Battle But Fall Short! The Sophomore Bulldogs and Nazareth Roadrunners battled back and forth in a very entertaining first half that saw many lead changes and the Roadrunners leading 38-32. The Bulldogs fell behind 11 points in the third quarter and went on a 10-0 run to cut it to 1 point, however Nazareth made a 3 pointer at the 3rd quarter buzzer to go up 48-44 after three quarters. The game was a 4-5 point game most of the fourth quarter and Nazareth made some key plays, handled the ball, and made their free throws in the final two minutes to defeat the Bulldogs 63-54. The Bulldogs were lead by Drew Pitlik with 14 points. Zach Vaia had a solid overall game with 10 points and 7 assists. Donald McCurdy added 9 points and AJ Meindl added 8 points and 5 rebounds. The Dogs will play the York Dukes on Wednesday, December 23rd at 5:00pm in the Third Place game of the Big Gold Tournament at St. Laurence High School.
Sophomores Dismantle Leo! The Sophomore Bulldogs and Leo Lions went battled for the better part of the first quarter, with the Bulldogs taking a 18-14 lead after one quarter. The Dogs jumped out to a 39-29 lead at the half and the second half was all Bulldogs, with the Dogs holding the Lions to 9 second half points and winning 67-38. The Bulldogs showed great balance with four players in double figures led by Drew Pitlik's 15 points. AJ Meindl added 11 points, while Jason Bageanis and Stefan Giminski each chipped in 10 points. The Bulldogs improve to 7-2 overall and move on to the semifinals of the Big Gold Tournament at St. Laurence on Tuesday, December 22nd at 6:30pm vs. Nazareth Academy.
Sophomores Each Roll Past Fenton! The Sophomore Bulldogs made 10 three pointers and blew out Fenton 72-26. Drew Pitlik led the Bulldog attack with 16 points. Devin Moody and AJ Meindl both had very solid games with 11 point and 9 points respectively and each also added 9 rebounds. All 12 Bulldog players scored in the game. The Dogs improve to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs take on Leo Catholic High School at 5:00pm on Monday, December 21st in the Big Gold Holiday Tournament at St. Laurence High School.
Sophomores Improve to 5-2! The Sophomore Bulldogs led 20-8 after one quarter and 33-17 at halftime, before increasing their lead to as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter. The Dogs finished with a 58-40 victory. AJ Meindl had a very good overall game with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Zach Vaia added 7 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. Jason Bagaenis added 7 points and 5 rebounds, while Devin Moody added 7 points and 4 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs led 42-24 at halftime and led by as many as 22 points in the late fourth quarter, before finishing with the 59-49 victory. The Bulldogs made 12 three pointers in the game and were led by Drew Pitlik's 19 points. Donald McCurdy added 13 points and Devin Moody added 8 points. The Dogs are now 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs travel to Aurora Central Catholic on Tuesday, December 15th to take on the Chargers at 6:00pm.
Sophomore Bulldogs Fall Apart Vs. Wheaton Warrenville South! The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead against Wheaton Warrenville South and led 13-5 after one quarter. The Bulldogs then led 17-16 at halftime and got outplayed, out-hustled, and out-worked in the second half. Wheaton South made a quick run to start the half and the Bulldogs never responded, falling 55-35. Zach Vaia led the Bulldogs with 10 points and Jason Bageanis added 8 points and 5 rebounds. The Bulldogs fall to 3-2 overall and host Immaculate Conception on Friday, December 11th at 5:30pm.
Program Sweep Of Wheaton Academy! The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to an early 13-5 lead in the first quarter, but struggled offensively in the second quarter and led 19-15 at halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the Warriors 25-8 in the third quarter and took a 44-23 lead after three quarters. The Dogs made 10 three pointers and played solid defense throughout finishing with a 49-32 victory. Drew Pitlik led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Jason Bageanis added 10 points and AJ Meindl chipped in 8 points. The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 with the win and 1-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs travel to Wheaton Warrenville South on Monday, December 7th at 5:30pm to take on the Tigers.
Sophomores Come Up Short! The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead and lead 15-10 after 1 quarter, but struggled making shots in the 2nd quarter, trailing 24-22 at halftime to Oak Park. The Dogs then had too many turnovers in the third quarter and dug themselves a 16 point deficit early in the fourth quarter. However, the Bulldogs did not give up and cut the Huskies lead to 4 points with about 3 minutes to play but couldn't get over the hump, eventually falling 52-46. Donald McCurdy had 20 points for the Bulldogs, while AJ Meindl chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs are 2-1 overall and travel to Wheaton Academy on Friday, December 4th at 6:00pm
Sophomores Win Big! The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to a 13-5 first quarter lead against Lane Tech. Lane didn't back down in the second quarter, cutting the Bulldog lead to 16-14. The Dogs scored the last 6 points of the quarter to take a 22-14 lead into halftime. Then the Bulldog defense picked up and their run continued, outscoring the Indians 22-0 in the third quarter to take a 44-14 lead after 3. The Dogs then finished out the game, defeating Lane Tech 54-19. Drew Pitlik and AJ Meindl each had 11 points for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are now 2-0 and take on Oak Park River Forest at 4:00pm for the championship of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic.
Sophomores with Hard Fought Win The Sophomore Bulldogs overcame a poor shooting performance and battled De Paul Prep in a very close game from start to finish. The Dogs trailed 15-13 at halftime and came out very strong in the third quarter taking a 29-23 lead after 3 quarters. The Dogs made some mental mistakes down the stretch, which allowed De Paul to have a shot to win it at the end, but the Dogs held on for a 35-34 victory. Freshman Zach Vaia led the Bulldogs with 11 points. AJ Meindl chipped in 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Jason Bageanis added 8 points. The Dogs are 1-0 and take on Lane Tech at 4:30 pm in the second round of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic on Friday, November 27th.
