Historic Season Comes to An End For the Bulldogs! The Varsity Bulldogs had a phenomenal 2014-15 season come to a disappointing end on Tuesday, March 17th to the hands of eventual State Champion, Stevenson 62-45. The Bulldogs fell down early and battled the rest of the way, but couldn't get over the hump. Sam Johnson led the Bulldogs in that game with 10 points and 14 rebounds. It was a season of milestones for the Bulldogs. The Dogs started the season strong by defeating Oak Park in the championship of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic. The Dogs then went on to win 15 consecutive games, before falling to Lake Forest in the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic. The Dogs went undefeated in the Metro Suburban Conference, winning their 14th consecutive conference championship. The Dogs also set a school record for number of wins in a season with 28, finishing 28-4 and breaking the almost 90 year old record set by the 1925-26 team of 25. The Dogs then went on to defeat Oak Park for the second time this season to win their 7th IHSA Regional Championship in school history and 4th since Coach McCloskey took over in 2001. The Dogs then won their 2nd sectional game in school history, defeating Curie 83-73, before defeating Morton 66-61 in front of an electric sold out crowd to win the first IHSA Sectional Championship in school history, advancing to the Elite Eight of Class 4A. These were many of the tremendous team accomplishments obtained throughout the year. Individually Coach McCloskey won his 400th career game in the regionals against Lindblom and he was also named Illinois Basketball Coaches Association District Coach of the Year. We had 4 players named all-conference, Jalen Clanton, Daniko Jackson, Mark Smith, and Sam Johnson was named conference MVP. The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association named Sam Johnson 3rd Team All-State, Daniko Jackson Special Mention, and Jalen Clanton Honorable Mention. The Suburban Life Newspaper named Sam Johnson All-Area MVP, Daniko Jackson was All-Area and Jalen Clanton and Mark Smith were honorable mention. Lastly, Sam Johnson broke a 50+ year old single-season rebounding record, breaking Tom Kondla's record of 382 in 1962-63, with 390 rebounds. The coaching staff wishes seniors, Sam Johnson, Ryan Hanley, Jake Lucas, Kevin Fitzgerald, and Paul Sitkiewicz the best of luck in their futures. They have been great players, leaders, and most importantly teammates during their 4 years at RB and have laid the foundation for the younger players in the program. There is a lot to be optimistic about moving forward within the Bulldog Basketball Program!
Sectional Champions! The Varsity Bulldogs earned the first Sectional Championship in school history tonight with their 66-61 victory over Morton. The atmosphere was electric. The student sections were both awesome. This Sectional Championship game was everything that is great about high school sports. Morton switched from their various box and one and zone defenses to man to man in the second half and turned the game around. The game was back and forth in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs trailed 59-58 with about 2:30 left in the game, but went on a 8-2 run to close out the game.
