Varsity Fights Hard And Falls To Proviso East In Regional Championship! The Varsity Bulldogs struggled early with 10 turnovers in the first quarter and trailed by as many as 12 points, before settling for a 21-11 first quarter deficit. The Dogs settled down in the second quarter and played the Pirates even, trailing 34-24 at halftime. The third quarter was all Bulldogs, as the Dogs outscored Proviso East 20-10, highlighted by a Will Kincanon buzzer beating 3 at the end of the quarter to tie the game 44-44. The fourth quarter was back and forth and the Bulldogs held a 49-45 lead with just under 6 minutes to go. A couple costly Bulldog mistakes led to an 8-0 Proviso East run. The Bulldogs and Proviso East played even the rest of the game with Proviso East making numerous free throws in the final minute to seal the final score of 72-65. The Bulldogs showed great balance once again with Jack VandeMerkt leading the Bulldogs with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Sam Johnson added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Fitzgerald had a solid game scoring 14 points and playing solid defense on Proviso East's best player, Jevon Carter who is attending West Virginia next season. Will Kincanon chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. The loss marks the end of the RB basketball careers of Will Kincanon and Jack VandeMerkt (both were named to the Metro Suburban Conference All Conference team, along with junior Sam Johnson). Both Will and Jack were a part of two conference championships and back to back 21-7 seasons. They both had huge senior seasons and both will be very successful beyond high school. Kincanon will be going to Division 1, Middle Tennessee State University on a baseball scholarship, while VandeMerkt is currently entertaining many different options to play college basketball. Varsity Advances to Regional Championship Game! The Varsity Bulldogs led 17-13 after one quarter and 37-27 at halftime in the regional semifinals against Palatine. The Bulldogs showed a ton of balance in the first half with 4 players scoring 6 points and 2 more players scoring 4 points. The Dogs improved the lead to 14 points early in the third quarter, before Wheaton North surged back to cut the Bulldog lead to 2 points midway through the third quarter. The Bulldogs then went on a 14-2 run to close out the third quarter, leading by 14 after 3. The Dogs withstood another Wheaton North run and closed out the game by handling the ball and making free throws down the stretch. The Dogs finished with a 76-60 victory. The victory improves the Bulldog record to 21-6 overall. Will Kincanon had a very good overall game with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and was 12-13 from the free throw line. Jack VandeMerkt added 17 points and 6 rebounds, while Sam Johnson chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Daniko Jackson added 7 points and 6 assists. Next up for the Bulldogs is a 7:00pm Regional Championship game on Friday, March 7th vs. Proviso East at Elk Grove High School. There will be a fan bus for students. Varsity wins 20th Game! Sophomores Finish The Season 21-3! The Varsity Bulldogs came out hot with a 9-0 lead. Elmwood Park stayed close in the first half and the varsity Bulldogs blew the game wide open in the second half, before finishing with a 97-72 victory over the Tigers of Elmwood Park. The Dogs showed great balance by placing 5 guys in double figures for the first time this season. Sophomore point guard Daniko Jackson led the way with 23 points (6 three pointers), 6 assists and 4 rebounds. Jack VandeMerkt added 15 points including 2 tremendous dunks on back to back possessions in the third quarter. Kevin Fitzgerald chipped in 15 points and 3 steals. Senior Will Kincanon narrowly missed a triple double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 assists. Junior Sam Johnson had a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 20-6 overall and have now won 20 games for 6 consecutive seasons. The Bulldogs also finished a perfect 12-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs begin state tournament play on Tuesday, March 4th at 8:00pm against the winner of Willowbrook and Wheaton North. Go Bulldogs!
Varsity With Hard Fought Road Win! The Varsity Bulldogs turned a 2 point halftime lead into a 66-55 victory against a solid Providence Catholic team. The Bulldogs shot an impressive 8-18 from three point range. Jack VandeMerkt led the Bulldogs with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sam Johnson added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Will Kincanon added 14 points, while sophomore Daniko Jackson added 7 points and 5 assists. The Bulldogs improve to 19-6 overall and travel to Elmwood Park on Friday, February 28th in the final regular season game of the year.
Tough Night For Bulldogs at St. Charles East! The
Varsity Bulldogs and St. Charles East Saints
battled throughout the game, changing leads numerous times, before the
Saints made key plays down the stretch for the 68-61 victory. The Dogs
trailed by 6 at halftime and came back and took the lead numerous times
in the second half, but could not hold on. Will Kincanon led the
Bulldogs with 25 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Sam Johnson added
12 points and 10 rebounds, while Jack VandeMerkt added 10 points and 12
rebounds. The Dogs fall to 18-6 overall and the Bulldogs next play on
Tuesday, February 25th at Providence Catholic at 7:00pm. Varsity Wins On Senior Night After Big Second Half! The Varsity Bulldogs and Ridgewood battled back and forth in the first half, with the Bulldogs taking a 31-29 lead into halftime. The third quarter was all Bulldogs! The Dogs defense stepped up and held Ridgewood to 1 third quarter point and took a commanding 50-30 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Dogs increased their lead to 27 points midway through the 4th quarter, before clearing the bench and giving seniors Will Kincanon and Jack VandeMerkt a great send off with a 69-56 victory. Senior manager Ryan Kunish was also honored for all the work he has given to our program over the past four years. He has been a tremendous asset to our program and will definitely be missed! VandeMerkt led the Bulldogs with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Will Kincanon had a solid overall game with 18 points, 7 assists, and 6 rebounds. Sam Johnson had another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The victory improves the Bulldog record to 18-5 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. Varsity Clinches 13th Consecutive Conference Championship! The Varsity Bulldogs started out strong and battled with Glenbard South for about a quarter and half, before taking full control of the game mid-second quarter. The Dogs took a 36-23 lead into halftime and turned that lead into 29 points late in the third quarter and early in the fourth, before finishing with a 74-53 victory. The win marks an unprecedented 13 consecutive conference championships for the Varsity Bulldogs. The Dogs shot the ball very well in the game, making 13 three pointers. Jack VandeMerkt led the way with 26 points and 7 rebounds, including 6 three point field goals. Will Kincanon had a solid game with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin Fitzgerald continued his steady play, while Sam Johnson had 6 points and 14 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 17-5 overall and 10-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. Varsity With Big Conference Win Illiana
Christian started out strong, but the varsity Bulldogs began to pull
away in the second quarter taking a 32-17 lead. However the Vikings
fought back and cut the Bulldog lead to 40-32 at halftime. The Bulldogs
came out very strong in the third quarter and outscored the Vikings
21-3, taking a 61-35 lead after three quarters. The Dogs coasted the
rest of the way to a 71-51 victory. Jack VandeMerkt led the Bulldogs
with 23 points. Will Kincanon struggled from the field, but still
contributed 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Sam Johnson finished
with 11 points and a team high 9 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 16-5
overall and 9-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs next travel
to Glenbard South in a big conference showdown on Friday, February 14th. Fitzgerald with Huge Night in Varsity Win! Timothy Christian came out on fire, making 6 first quarter three pointers, and led the Bulldogs 22-13 after one quarter.
The Bulldogs fought back and cut the Trojans lead to 36-34 at halftime.
The Dogs held the Trojans to only 17 second half points and went on to
win 71-53 to improve to 15-5 overall and 8-0 in
the Metro Suburban Conference. Junior Guard Kevin Fitzgerald had the
hot hand, making 8 three pointers (7 in the second half) on 11 attempts
(2nd most made threes in a game in school history) to finish with a
career high 24 points. Fitzgerald is also the 5th
Bulldog to score over 20 points in a game this season, demonstrating the
team's versatility. Will Kincanon also had a very solid game scoring
23 points. Sophomore guard Daniko Jackson had a solid overall game with
10 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. The Dogs host Illiana Christian
on Tuesday, February 11th at 7:00pm. Varsity Cruises to Easy Win Against Fenton! The Varsity Bulldogs took a 42-24 lead into halftime and didn't look back, coasting to an easy 77-44 victory over the Fenton Bison. Sam Johnson led the Bulldogs with 15 points and 8 rebound. Will Kincanon also scored 15 points and chipped in 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Jack VandeMerkt added 12 points, including 3 electrifying dunks. The Bulldogs improve to 14-5 overall and 7-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs next host Timothy Christian on Friday, February 7th at 7:30pm, in a very important Metro Suburban Conference matchup.
Varsity and Sophomore Blow Out Elmwood Park! The
Varsity Bulldogs jumped out to a 25-9 first quarter lead and led
39-24 at halftime. The 2nd half was all Bulldogs as they cruised to a
91-58 victory over the Tigers of Elmwood Park. 13 of the 15 players
that played scored for the Bulldogs and 4 players scored in double
figures. Sam Johnson led the Bulldogs with 16 points, including 4
three pointers in the third quarter. Jack VandeMerkt had a solid
overall game with 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Will Kincanon
was also very solid with 12 points, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds. Paul
Sitkieiwicz was the fourth Bulldog in double figures with 11 points.
Sophomore Mark Smith just missed double figures with 8 points. The
Bulldogs improve to 13-4 overall and are 6-0 in the Metro Suburban
Conference The Dogs travel to Whitney Young on Saturday, January 25th
to take on Westinghouse at 6:00pm in the Annual Chops Billinger Memorial
Shootout. Varsity Improves to 12-4 at MLK Dream Classic! The
Varsity Bulldogs took on Team Englewood at Whitney Young High School in
the annual MLK Dream Classic. The game was tight early and was tied
34-34 at halftime. The Bulldogs battled and built a 15 point second
half lead, but Englewood continued to battle back. The Dogs did just
enough to win and held on for the 78-73 win.
The Dogs played the game shorthanded without senior guard, Will
Kincanon, who suffered a minor knee injury during his 25 point
performance against Ridgewood on Friday night. Sophomore point guard
Daniko Jackson stepped up huge in his absence scoring 21 points and
dishing out 8 assists. Jack VandeMerkt added 19 points and 6 rebounds.
Junior Paul Sitkiewicz had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Sophomore Mark
Smith chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 12-4 and host Elmwood Park in a Metro Suburban Conference matchup at
7:00pm on Friday, January 24th. Varsity Wins Battle With Always Tough Ridgewood! The
Varsity Bulldogs fell behind Ridgewood, 9-0 but withstood the Ridgewood
run and took a 32-28 lead into halftime. The Dogs came out hot early
in the third quarter and tried to put Ridgewood away, leading 43-31,
before the Rebels came storming back and went on a 16-3 run to take a
47-46 lead late in the third quarter. The Bulldogs continued to fight
and built their lead to 7 points midway through the 4th quarter, but the
pesky Rebels would not go away without a fight, cutting the Bulldog
lead to 1 numerous times. However, the strong free throw shooting of
the Bulldogs (31-40) for the game, proved to be the difference in the
71-68 victory. Will Kincanon led all scorers with 25 points including
18-20 from the charity stripe. Kincanon also chipped in 6 rebounds and 3
assists. Jack VandeMerkt added 19 points and 7 rebounds. While
sophomore point guard, Daniko Jackson added 10 points including 3, three
pointers. The Dogs improve to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the Metro
Suburban Conference. The Dogs are in action again on Saturday, January
18th at Whitney Young High School in the Martin Luther King Dream
Classic vs. Englewood at 5:00pm. Varsity and Sophomores With Blowout Wins vs. Von Steuben The Varsity Bulldogs and Von Steuben played even until midway through the second quarter, when the Bulldogs opened up a 10 point lead at the half. The third quarter was all Bulldogs as they opened up a 30 point lead after 3. The Bulldogs were able to clear the bench in the fourth quarter and play all 15 guys before finishing with the 72- 57 victory. Jack VandeMerkt led the Bulldogs with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Will Kincanon added 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. Sam Johnson added 11 points and 6 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 10-4 overall and travel to Ridgewood on Friday, January 17th at 7:00pm to take on the Rebels.
Varsity and Sophomores with Big Conference Wins vs. Glenbard South! The
Varsity Bulldogs got off to a great start and never looked back,
defeating Glenbard South 69-54. The Dogs jumped out to numerous double
figure leads in the first quarter and led 37-21 at halftime. The
Raiders cut the deficit to 8, early in the fourth quarter but two three
pointers by Kevin Fitzgerald blew the game back open for the Bulldogs.
Sam Johnson led the Bulldogs with 19 points and also had 9 rebounds.
Jack VandeMerkt chipped in 18 points and 14 rebounds. Will Kincanon
added 13 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Fitzgerald ended up with 8
points and Sophomore, Mark Smith contributed 7 points and 4 rebounds.
The Bulldogs improve to 9-4 overall and 4-0 in the Metro Suburban
Conference. The Dogs host Von Steuben from the Chicago Public League at
4:30pm on Saturday, January 11th. Varsity Improves to 8-3! The
Varsity Bulldogs opened up a 33-13 halftime lead over the Sandburg
Eagles, in the Jack Tosh Tournament. The Dogs improved that lead to 25
points midway through the 3rd quarter and led by 18 at the end of three
quarters. The Eagles wouldn't go away and shot the three pointer
extremely well in the second half and cut the Bulldog lead to 8 late in
the fourth quarter. The Dogs then finished the game with a 69-59
victory. Will Kincanon scored a career high 32 points (13-15 from the
free throw line) and had 7 rebounds. Jack VandeMerkt added 13 points
and 7 rebounds. Sophomore guard Daniko Jackson had a solid game with 8
points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. The Bulldogs improve to 8-3 overall
and play Conant at 12:00 on December 30th, in their final game at the
Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.
Varsity Drops Close One With St. Ignatius! The
Varsity Bulldogs and Wolfpack of St. Ignatius played a very tough, back
and forth game. The Dogs led by as many as 5 points in the second
half, but couldn't close out the game, missing many free throws and
making a few crucial mistakes in the final few minutes. Will Kincanon
led the Bulldogs with 24 points. Sam Johnson had his second consecutive
double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The Dogs fall to 7-3 and
take on Sandburg at 4:30pm on Saturday, December 28th in 3rd round
action in the Jack Tosh Classic at York High School. Varsity Wins Tough Battle vs. Glenbard East! The
Varsity Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 13-7 lead vs. Glenbard East.
However, Glenbard East responded and took the lead 14-13 at the end of
one quarter. The Bulldogs struggled offensively in the second quarter
and trailed 24-20 at halftime. The Dogs played with more energy in the
second half and took the lead for good early in the fourth quarter
before finishing with the 55-47 victory. Sam Johnson and Jack
VandeMerkt each had double-doubles. Johnson had 19 points and 13
rebounds, while VandeMerkt had 15 points and 11 rebounds. The Dogs
improve 7-2 and advance to play St. Ignatius at 6:30pm on Friday,
December 27th at York High School. Varsity Wins Physical Game With Illiana! The Varsity Bulldogs battled from start to finish, with a very physical Illiana Christian team that played very hard. The Bulldogs size proved to be too much for the Vikings. The Dogs led 30-26 at halftime and controlled much of the second half with the 73-61 victory. 6'7 senior, Jack VandeMerkt led the Bulldogs with 27 points on 10-13 shooting from two point range. He also chipped in 8 rebounds. 6'6 junior Sam Johnson added 19 points and 11 rebounds. 6'3 senior guard Will Kincanon chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds, while 6'6 sophomore Mark Smith contributed 9 big rebounds. Junior guard, Kevin Fitzgerald added 9 points. The Bulldogs improve to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. Varsity Wins Battle With Timothy Christian! The
Varsity Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead against Timothy
Christian. Timothy then came storming back to take a 10-8 lead and the
Bulldogs were in a battle the rest of the way. The Dogs trailed 18-14
at the end of the first quarter and rallied to take a 35-34 lead at
halftime. The Dogs and Trojans traded many baskets in the second half.
The Dogs then started to take command of the game and pushed their
second half lead to 62-52 midway through the 4th quarter. However poor
free throw shooting in the fourth quarter allowed the Trojans back into
the game, before the Bulldogs held on for the 65-62 victory.Will
Kincanon had a solid overall game with 16 points, 8 assists, and 7
rebounds. Jack VandeMerkt chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Kevin
Fitzgerald had a solid game off the bench with 14 points including 4
three pointers. Sam Johnson had a very solid first half, scoring 11
points and grabbing 7 rebounds before catching an elbow to the eye just
before halftime. He needed to be taken to the hospital for stitches and
sophomore, Mark Smith stepped up in his place with 8 points and 6
rebounds. The Dogs improve to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the Metro Suburban
Conference. The Bulldogs next game is Friday, December 20th at 7:00 at Illiana Christian. Varsity, Sophomores and Freshman A with Big Wins over Neighborhood Rival Lyons Township. The
Varsity Bulldogs came out very strong strong jumping out to a 26-12
first quarter lead and increased that lead to 49-30 at halftime.
However the very talented Lions didn't go away quietly. They cut the
lead to 16 going into the third quarter and continued to chip away

in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs made some key free throws and did
just enough to hold on for the 77-74 victory. The win improves the
Bulldogs to 4-2 overall. Will Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 28 points,
including 5 three pointers. Jack VandeMerkt chipped in 21 points and
11 rebounds. Sam Johnson added 11 points and 8 rebounds, while
sophomore guard Daniko Jackson added 7 points and 8 assists. The Dogs
next game is December 17th at 7:00pm at Timothy Christian. Varsity Wins Conference Opener vs. Fenton! The Varsity Bulldogs came out strong and never looked bak defeating Fenton 85-34. The Dogs scored 34 points in the first quarter, highlighted by a Kevin Fitzgerald half-court shot at the buzzer. The Dogs showed great balance with four different players scoring double figures. Jack VandeMerkt led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Mark Smith added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Kevin Fitzgerald scored 12 points and Paul Sitkiewicz added 11 points to round out the double figure scorers. The Bulldogs also had a season high 21 assists for the game. The Dogs are now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Dogs host Lyons Township on Saturday, December 7th at 6:00pm.

Lose Tough Game To Very Talented Oak Park! The
Riverside Brookfield Varsity Bulldogs battled all game long against
highly ranked Oak Park River Forest Oak park had two runs (8-0 and 6-0)
in the first half that were essentially the difference in the game.
Oak Park led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter and 45-31 at
halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the Huskies in the third and trailed
by 11 going into the fourth quarter. The Dogs battled but could never
get within 9 points in the fourth, before falling 84-71. The Dogs
couldn't contain tournament MVP, Erick Locke, who finished with 31
points for the Huskies. Will Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 27 points.
Jack VandeMerkt added 15 points and 7 rebounds. Paul Sitkiewicz
chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds, while Daniko Jackson contributed 10
points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. The Bulldogs head into Metro
Suburban Conference play with a 2-2 record and travel to Fenton on Friday,
December 6th. Varsity With Great Comeback Win! The Riverside Brookfield Varsity Bulldogs led 35-31 at halftime. However, Brother Rice came out and controlled much of the second half, leading by 3 after three quarters and led the Bulldogs 62-52 with a little more than 3 minutes to go. The Bulldogs quickly gained momentum after forcing Brother Rice into a few turnovers and missed shots, while making some clutch shots and free throws on the offensive end. Will Kincanon hit a huge three pointer, giving the Bulldogs a 65-64 lead with a little less than 2 minutes to play. The Bulldogs held on after key free throws by Kevin Fitzgerald, Will Kincanon, and Sam Johnson. Jack VandeMerkt came up with a huge steal. The Dogs were led by Kincanon's 23 points and 7 rebounds. VandeMerkt added 20 points. Sam Johnson and Daniko Jackson added 9 points each. The Bulldogs improve to 2-1 and take on a very talented Oak Park River Forest team in the championship game of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic at 5:30pm on Saturday, November 30.
Varsity Beats Talented Kenwood Team! The
Riverside Brookfield Varsity started out slow vs. the Kenwood Broncos,
trailing at one point 20-12. However, the Dogs kept fighting and
trailed 41-38 at halftime. The Dogs and Broncos played even in the
third quarter with RB trailing 59-56. The Bulldogs controlled most of
the 4th quarter behind hot shooting from Will Kincanon, Jack VandeMerkt,
and Daniko Jackson, leading by as many as 8 points. The Bulldogs
finished with a hard fought 80-76 victory. Jack VandeMerkt led the
Bulldogs with 24 points and 8 rebounds. Will Kincanon added 23 points
and 5 assists. Sam Johnson had 16 points (14 in the first half), 6
assists, and 5 rebounds. Sophomore Daniko Jackson added 8 points, 6
rebounds, and 5 assists. The Dogs improve to 1-1 on the season.
Rich Central Tops Varsity 80-68 In Season Opener: The Riverside Brookfield Bulldogs came out with a lot of energy early, however Rich Central finished the game strong, defeated the Bulldogs 80-68. The Bulldogs had too many costly turnovers in the second half that led to easy Rich Central baskets. 6'6 junior, Sam Johnson led the Bulldogs with 27 points and added 7 rebounds. 6'7 senior, Jack VandeMerkt had 24 points and 12 rebounds. The Bulldogs look to regroup against a very talented Kenwood team tonight (11/27/13) at 7:00pm.
