The Sophomore Bulldogs finished the season on a 14 game winning streak by dismantling Ridgewood 77-37. Unfortunately, Ridgewood's best player did not play in this game and it definitely affected them. The Sophomore Bulldogs finished the year tied with last year's team, for the second best record in the 104 year history of the school, 22-2 and 12-0 in the conference. Freshman Sam Johnson continued his solid play over the last two months by leading the Bulldogs with 16 points and 4 three pointers. Will Kincanon added his 2nd consecutive triple double with 12 points, 12 assists, and 12 rebounds. Kincanon had a very impressive 0 turnovers to go with the 12 assists. Center, Mike Davis had 12 points, while Christian Verdin added 8 points. Tony Sampson contributed 7 points off the bench. The win marks the end of a stellar two year sophomore career that saw Will Kincanon finish with a 44-4 record over his two years. Sophomores Clinch Conference Championship Outright! The Sophomore Bulldogs clinched their 6th consecutive conference championship outright with a 73-52 victory over Illiana Christian. It was a very hard fought game for the Bulldogs as they led 19-16 after one quarter and 30-26 at halftime. The Bulldogs increased the lead to 53-43 after three quarters and cruised in the fourth quarter to the 73-52 victory. Freshman Sam Johnson had 5 three pointers in the first quarter and finished with 9 three pointers for the game and 28 points. Will Kincanon recorded his first career triple double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. Jack VandeMerkt had a solid game with 10 points. Freshman Paul Sitkewicz had a solid game off the bench with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Christian Verdin had 8 points and 10 rebounds for the Dogs. The win is the Dogs 12th straight and improves their record to 21-2 and 11-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs finish off their season with a home contest vs. Ridgewood on Friday, February 24th at 5:30.
Sophomores Clinch at Least a Tie For Conference Championship! The Sophomore Bulldogs started out very slow, leading 4-0 at the end of one quarter and 16-11 at the half. The Dogs then came out after halftime and blitzed Fenton with a 28-4 third quarter and lead 44-15 after three quarters, before finishing with the 50-24 victory. The Dogs were led by Will Kincanon with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Sam Johnson added 13 points and 6 rebounds. The win is the Bulldogs 11th in a row and clinches at least a tie for their 6th straight conference championship on the sophomore level (The Dogs lead by 2 games with 2 to play). The Bulldogs improve to 20-2 overall, making that the 5th straight season with at least 20 wins on the sophomore level. The Dogs are also 10-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference and take on Illiana Christian on Friday, February 17th at 5:30pm.
Sophomore Bulldogs Win 10th Straight Game at Glenbard South! The Sophomore Bulldogs trailed 8-7 early in the first quarter before going on a 12-0 run and leading 19-8 midway through the second quarter. The Dogs then took a 28-24 lead going into halftime and never looked back. The Dogs led 38-24 after three quarters and finished with the 50-31 victory. The win improves the Bulldogs to 19-4 overall and 9-0 in the conference. The win also gives the Bulldogs a 2 game lead in the conference race over second place, Glenbard South with 3 conference games left to play. Freshman Sam Johnson led the Bulldogs with 11points and had 4 rebounds. Will Kincanon had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. Tony Sampson had a solid game off the bench with 9 points, while Christian Verdin had a very good game with 8 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomores Win 18th Game! The Sophomore Bulldogs led 19-11 after one quarter and 37-18 at halftime. The Dogs increased the lead to 56-25 with about 5 minutes to play before clearing the bench and holding on for the 56-40 victory. Will Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Sam Johnson chipped in 11 points. The Bulldogs improve to 18-2 overall and 8-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. Sophomores Improve to 17-2! The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-0 and 22-2 lead before finishing with a 55-36 victory. Will Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 16 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Mike Davis had 13 points and 9 rebounds, while Jack VandeMerkt added 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Christian Verdin finished with 8 points and 8 rebounds. Kincanon's 37 Points Lead Sophomores to Victory! The Sophomore Bulldogs led 10-9 after one quarter and rode the hot shooting of Will Kincanon in the second quarter to take a 31-19 halftime lead. Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 23 first half points. The Dogs continued to increase the lead in the third quarter and led 54-27 after three quarters, before cruising to the 70-39 victory. Kincanon finished with a career high 37 points and added 13 rebounds. Sam Johnson had 9 points, while Jack VandeMerkt added 8 points. Christian Verdin had 11 rebounds. The Bulldogs shot the ball extremely well and made 16 three pointers in the game, including Kincanon's 6 threes. The win is the Bulldogs 7th straight and improves their overall record to 16-2 and 6-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference.
Sophomores Improve to 15-2! The Sophomore Bulldogs led Ridgewood 15-9 after one quarter and 29-27 at halftime. The Dogs came out strong in the second half and scored the first 8 points of the third quarter and outscored the Rebels 20-6 before leading 49-33 after three quarters. The Dogs finished with the 66-53 victory over the Rebels. Freshman Sam Johnson had a huge game for the Bulldogs with 23 points. Sophomore Bulldogs defeat St. Laurence for the 2nd time this season! The Sophomore Bulldogs improved to 13-2 on the season, as they defeated St. Laurence 53-26. The Dogs defeated St. Laurence at the Xmas tournament only by one 50-49 and showed their improvement since then with the big victory. The Dogs led 17-3 after one quarter and 29-17 at halftime before cruising to the victory. Will Kincanon led the way for the Bulldogs with 26 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Christian Verdin also played a great game with 16 points and 7 rebounds. The Dogs travel to Illiana Christian on Friday, January 20th for a 6:00pm Metro Suburban Conference matchup.
Sophomores Route Fenton! The Sophomore Bulldogs won their 3rd straight game with a 55-25 victory over Fenton. The Dogs led 9-4 at the end of the first quarter and increased their lead to 22-10 at halftime. The Dogs outscored the Bison 22-4 in the third quarter and opened the lead to 44-14, before cruising to the victory. Will Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Jack VandeMerkt chipped in 14 points, while Christian Verdin added 7 points and 8 rebounds. The Bulldogs improve to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. Sophomores Win Hard Fought Battle with Glenbard South! The Sophomore Bulldogs led 13-9 at the end of one quarter and 28-16 at halftime and built their lead to 39-24 after three quarters. However, Glenbard South did not quit and continued to play hard. After numerous missed free throws in the fourth quarter, the Raiders continued to pull closer, and closest the game got in the second half was the 47-42 final score. Sam Johnson had a huge game with 20 points and 4 rebounds, including 5 three pointers. Will Kincanon had 9 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Jack VandeMerkt added 8 points and 6 rebounds. The Bulldogs are now 11-2 overall and 3-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. They host Fenton at 5:30 on January 13th.
Sophomore Bulldogs Finish 3rd at St. Laurence Xmas Tournament The Sophomore Bulldogs defeated a pesky St. Laurence team, 50-49 and finished in third place of the St. Laurence Big Gold Xmas Tournament. St. Laurence led 26-25 at halftime and the Dogs came out strong in the 3rd quarter, scoring the first 8 points and taking a 7 point lead. However, St. Laurence kept fighting back. The Vikings led by 4 with under 3 minutes to play and the Dogs got a huge three pointer from Tony Sampson and the game winning basket by Will Kincanon on a driving layup with under 30 seconds to play. The Dogs held on defensively in the final 30 seconds to secure the victory. Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Christian Verdin added 13 points (all in the first half) and 5 rebounds. Sam Johnson and Jack VandeMerkt each added 6 points in the win. The Dogs improve to 10-2 on the season and are off until January 6th when they take on Glenbard South in a big Metro Suburban Conference matchup.
Sophomores Drop Tough Game to York The Sophomore Bulldogs struggled from the start against a very solid York sophomore team at the St. Laurence Big Gold Xmas Tournament. The Dogs trailed 14-7 after one quarter and 32-15 at halftime. Things didn't get any better in the second half as the Dogs ultimately fell to the Dukes 54-29. Paul Sitkiewicz, Jack VandeMerkt and Christian Verdin all led the Bulldogs with 6 points. The Dogs fall to 9-2 and look to rebound on Wednesday, December 28th, in the 3rd place game at 2:00pm vs. St. Laurence.
Sophomores Advance to Semi-Finals of the St. Laurence Big Gold Holiday Tournament! The Sophomore Bulldogs started out very sluggish in the first quarter of their game vs. Stagg, trailing 11-9 at halftime. Things didn't get much better in the second half, traling 25-21 at halftime. However, the Dogs came out with much more energy in the second half and outscored the Chargers 14-5 in the third quarter to take a 35-30 lead after 3 quarters. The Dogs built their lead to as many as 9 points in the early 4th quarter, but Stagg kept battling and coming back. The Dogs closed out the game with Jack VandeMerkt, Tony Sampson, Sam Johnson, and Will Kincanon all hitting big three pointers in the 4th quarter. Kincanon also went 4-4 from the free throw line in the final minute to help seal the Bulldog victory. Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. Christian Verdin had a solid overall game with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 5 assists. Sam Johnson added 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Jack VandeMerkt had 7 points and 5 steals. The Bulldogs have now won 7 games in a row and improve to 9-1 overall. The Dogs take on York in the semi-finals of the Big Gold Tournament at St. Laurence at 2:00 on Tuesday, December 27th.
Sophomores Defeat One of the Most Respected Programs in the Nation...Whitney Young! The Sophomore Bulldogs started out strong and led the Dolphins of Whitney Young 16-13 after the first quarter and 29-23 at halftime. Will Kincanon paced the Bulldogs in the first half with 11 points. The Dogs then struggled handling the Whitney Young pressure in the third quarter and trailed 40-38 at the end of three quarters. The Dogs started out the 4th quarter with back to back three pointers from Sam Johnson and Tony Sampson to take a 44-40 lead. The Dogs controlled most fof the game after that and finished with a 53-51 victory. Will Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. Christian Verdin had a solid overall game with 11 points. A pair of Freshman also had solid games for the Bulldogs. Sam Johnson had 10 points and 4 assists, while Paul Sitkiewicz added 7 points. The Dogs improve to 8-1 on the season and next up is Stagg at the St. Laurence Big Gold Christmas Tournament on Monday, December 26th at 11:00 am.
Sophomores Improve to 7-1! The Sophomore Bulldogs led 16-10 after 1 quarter and 36-18 at halftime, before clamping down defensively and holding Timothy Chrisitan to only 8 points in the second half, finishing with a 67-26 victory. The victory saw 11 different Bulldogs score, led by Will Kincanon's 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. Christian Verdin scored his season high, 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Freshman Sam Johnson added 10 points and Jack VandeMerkt added to the Bulldog balance with 8 points. The Bulldogs have now won 5 straight games and improve to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. Sophomores Defeat Glenbard East 53-39 The Sophomore Bulldogs shrugged off some early shooting struggles to defeat the Rams 53-39. The Dogs led 11-10 after one quarter and 22-17 at halftime. The Dogs improved their lead to 37-26 at the end of three quarters before building a 20 point lead midway through the fourth quarter behind a strong shooting performance from Freshman, Sam Johnson. Johnson led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Will Kincanon added 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists. Jack VandeMerkt also had a strong game with 12 points and 5 assists. Freshman Paul Sitkiewicz also played very good defense for the Bulldogs. The Dogs improve their overall record to 6-1 and host Timothy Christian on Friday, December 16th at 5:30. The Alumni game will start roughly at 8:20 following the varsity game on Friday vs. Timothy. There will be over 20 former players participating, dating back to the the late 80's.
Sophomores Win Big vs. Providence The Sophomore Bulldogs struggled to make a layup early in the game and were tied with Providence 8-8 after 1 quarter. However, in the second quarter the Bulldogs sped the game up, got the tempo in their favor and took a 31-19 halftime lead before 14 second quarter points from Will Kincanon. The Dogs went on to lead by as many as 26 points in the second half before closing with the 58-39 victory. Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 25 points and 10 rebounds, including 11-11 from the free throw line. The Bulldogs improve to 5-1 on the season and travel to Glenbard East High School to take on the Rams at 6:00pm on Wednesday, December 14th.
Sophomores Beat LT for Third Straight Year! The Sophomore Bulldogs struggled early vs. LT, falling behind 9-2 and then 12-6 after a quarter. The Dogs had a solid second quarter and trailed 22-19 at halftime. Lyons Township went on a third quarter run that saw them leading 34-23 with a little over a minute left in the quarter. The Dogs then scored the final 5 points of the quarter, capped by a Jack VandeMerkt 3 pointer to cut the LT lead to 34-28 at the end of three quarters. The Bulldogs continued to chip away in the fourth quarter. Will Kincanon hit two free throws to cut the LT lead to 42-41. The Dogs then got a steal and missed the layup with 18 seconds left. They fouled LT and LT missed the free throw. Kincanon then got to the rim and made a layup and got fouled with 7 seconds left. He made the free throw, giving the Dogs a 44-42 lead, and the Dogs held on defense giving them the win! Kincanon ended up with 17 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tony Sampson came off the bench and hit some real big shots, finishing with 8 points. The win marks the sophomore Bulldogs third straight victory vs. LT and 4th in the past 5 years. The Bulldogs are now 4-1 on the season and travel to Providence Catholic on Wednesday, December 7th at 5:30pm.
Sophomores Route Elmwood Park 61-25 The Sophomore Bulldogs opened up a 22-6 first quarter lead on the Tigers. Elmwood Park then outplayed the Bulldogs in the second half by outscoring the Bulldogs 11-10 in the 2nd quarter, giving the Bulldogs a 32-17 lead at halftime. The Dogs then came out fired up in the third quarter, scoring the first 16 points of the quarter and picking up their defensive effort, leading Elmwood Park 50-23 at the end of three quarters. The Bulldogs played a great defensive 2nd half, holding the Tigers to 8 total second half points, before cruising to the 61-25 victory. Will Kincanon had 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Sam Johnson added 10 points, while Mike Davis chipped in 8 points and 4 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Metro Suburban Conference. The Bulldogs host Lyons Township at 4:30 on Saturday, December 4th.
Sophomores Fall to Oak Park 50-40 in VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic Championship The Sophomore Bulldogs lost an intense battle with Oak Park for the Championship of the Bill VandeMerkt Thanksgiving Classic 50-40. The game was much closer than the final score indicated. The Dogs trailed 12-10 after one quarter. The Dogs then led 21-19 in the last few seconds of the first half and Oak Park hit a buzzer beating three pointer to take a 22-21 lead into halftime. The Dog played a very solid third quarter leading 29-26, and again the Huskies hit a buzzer beating three pointer to tie the game 29-29 after three quarters. The Huskies then scored the first 7 points of the 4th quarter, mostly off offensive rebounds to take a 36-27 lead. The Dogs cut the Huskie lead to 36-33 but couldn't get over the hump. The Bulldogs couldn't overcome their poor shooting in the game which saw them go an uncharacteristic 2-19 from the three point arc. Oak Park was very solid shooting free throws down the stretch. Will Kincanon had a solid overall game with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Jack VandeMerkt added 8 points and Christian Verdin chipped in 7 points and 7 rebounds. Sophomores Take Care of Urban Prep 48-25 The Sophomore Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the first quarter and cruised to a 26-6 halftime lead vs. Urban Prep. The Dogs played tremendous defense throughout, leading 46-11 in the early 4th quarter before clearing the bench and finishing with a 48-25 victory. Will Kincanon led the Bulldogs with 17 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds. Jack VandeMerkt chipped in 10 points, while Freshman Paul Sitkewicz scored 4 points and led the Bulldogs with 9 rebounds. The Dogs improve to 2-0 overall and take on Oak Park at 4:30 pm on Saturday, November 26th for the Bill VandeMerkt Classic tournament championship.
